Senior Project - Calm Down
"My senior project is a short film consisting of multiple short vignettes tied together by a common theme; Stupid things that make me anxious. It is an attempt to make light of these things for myself, and to give others a look into what it’s like to have anxiety. My character, Happy Bigfoot, represents the anxious and introverted side of myself. Each vignette will be somewhere between 10 to 20 seconds long. The subjects include things such as ticking clocks, waiting rooms, noises at night, and finding a job. This whole project is very personal for me, but I find that personal pieces can often be overwhelming and hard to relate to for an audience. My solution for this is to keep it light and simple, without music, and to keep it humorous and easy to digest.
The project will be produced in a stylized illustrative style, animated with a combination of cell animation and After Effects. The colors will be bold but simple, There will be sound effects but no music. This will allow the vignettes to tie together without the interruption of changing or continuous sound. I think that if there was music, it would be difficult to show the separation of sections, so leaving it out and keeping it simple seems appropriate. I believe that the vignette system I’m following will lend itself to however my production schedule ends up playing out. I’ll plan out several, and get through as many as I can. If I finish them all, I can always add more. I intend on starting production during Fall Quarter, continuing during Winter Quarter, and then finishing during Senior II in Spring Quarter."
